Northeast Ohio Rock Scene recently spoke with Bobby from The Promise Hero and asked about what’s next for him and the band. Read the full interview below.
The Promise Heroo is one of the Cleveland area’s known pop/punk acts. You may run into frontman, Bobby Vaughn, at a lot of shows in the Cleveland/Akron area. When The Promise Hero is not playing a show, Bobby is out promoting The Promise Hero as much as he can. I had a chance to catch up with Bobby and ask him a few questions.
When and how did The Promise Hero come together?
“Daniel Weiss and I were in bands together throughout high school and finally formed The Promise Hero in 2005, my senior year.”
What bands/artists would you consider some of your influences?
“I would say Blink 182, Saves The Day and the Beatles have always been an influence from the start.”
What is your favorite venue in the Cleveland/Akron area to play at and why?
“I really enjoy playing at The Grog Shop for it’s good location, friendly staff and a lot of my favorite shows have been put on there.”
Who are some of your favorite local bands from the Cleveland/Akron area?
“Smokescreen, My Mouth Is The Speaker, Yelloh, Call It Fiction, Into The Crowd, Runaway Brother and anything Daniel Weiss and Jeff Dilorenzo record.”
What does The Promise Hero have planned for the rest of 2011? What about 2012?
“I’ve been recording demos for a new album over the past couple years. I just plan to keep working on songs and finding some friends to help write and record it!”

INTERVIEW:
***All questions answered by Bobby Vaughn, guitar/vocals for The Promise Hero***
How’d the band come together?
Our band formed when Daniel and I met in high school. It was inevitable being the only two punk rock Jews.
What made you want to be in a band?I’ve always enjoyed getting attention and something clicked when I saw Blink-182 on tour in 2000.
Who are your musical influences?Blink-182, Fall Out Boy, Saves The Day, Tegan and Sara, the Beatles… I try not to take my eye off the prize.
How does the writing process take place for your band? Is it a group effort or does one person do most of the writing? It’s pretty crazy having two Jews in one band. So many great ideas are always being tossed around. We’ve done a little of everything. So far, we haven’t found a method of writing that didn’t work.
Speaking of writing, are you guys currently writing at all? Can fans expect a new album or EP anytime soon?We have enough new material to satisfy a full-length release and were constantly writing. We’re currently focused on building up our regional fan-base until we could afford a new record.
What’s your favorite part about being in a band? Least favorite?I met all of my friends through being in our band. Least favorite part is not being able to have a girlfriend. It just doesn’t work.
What are some goals you are hoping to accomplish this year with your band?It would be a lot of fun to tour with a band that draws decently across the country. I also would be interested in documenting our lives and broadcasting it to everyone.
Can you give SUR readers a peak into the not-so-distant future of The Promise Hero?We will be releasing our third music video within the next couple months. You will also be able to catch us in your town when we tour this June!
Can you give me on straight up random fact about each member of the band?Aside from drumming in the Promise Hero, Frank is also enrolled in cosmetology school. Daniel has released two albums of his own and is working on another. Jeff is always in his studio recording something. I, Bobby, have been building up my friendship bracelet collection on my wrists.
Any last words for the readers of Straight Up Random?
I enjoy when people give me friendship bracelets, or even better; their friendship!
